The quantitative revolution in geography
By Statlas Editorial · 1 min read
Quantitative geography applies statistical and mathematical models to geographic phenomena, part of the broader quantitative revolution that transformed geography from a descriptive discipline into an analytical, data-driven one. Fred K. Schaefer (1904-1953, German-American geographer) triggered the movement with his 1953 paper. It was carried forward by Waldo Tobler (1930-2018, Swiss-American geographer), best known for the First Law of Geography.
