Quantitative Demography

The first statistician in history

By Statlas Editorial · 1 min read

Quantitative demography is the statistical study of population: births, deaths, migration, and structure. John Graunt (1620-1674, English) is widely regarded as the first person to systematically analyze population data, using London's weekly mortality records to estimate population size and identify patterns in births and deaths, decades before statistics existed as a formal discipline.
